We are each individual, eternal expressions of God. Our essential nature is divine and therefore inherently good. Our purpose is to express our divine potential as realized and demonstrated by many master teachers. The more we awaken to our divine nature, the more fully God expresses in and through our lives.

Unity is a positive, practical, progressive approach to spirituality. We honour the universal truths in all Spiritual teachings and respect each individual’s right to choose their spiritual path.

Unity was developed in the late 1890s by Myrtle and Charles Fillmore; their absolute genius was their ability to take ancient universal spiritual concepts and put them in the language of the dominant Bible-belt Christian culture and era in which they lived. Their original intention was that Unity would be a spiritual bridge between the old and new, East and West.

The Fillmores were eager explorers of spirituality and the science of consciousness. Unity was a radical spiritual laboratory where questioning and the exploration of the leading edges of religion, science, consciousness and technology was encouraged.

The Fillmores knew they were not the end-all when it came to Truth or its interpretation. Charles and Myrtle would be the first to question everything they had ever written or taught in light of newly revealed knowledge.

Our inspiration comes from humanity’s awakening to its divinity. Our mission is to live and teach Unity principles and awaken humanity's divine potential through spiritual education, affirmative prayer, and conscious practice.

Unity Vancouver Island Vision Statement: Unity Vancouver Island is a growing, unfolding, expanding Centre of Light and Love, mighty to attract its good and radiate good to others.

Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute Vision Statement: A world powerfully transformed through the growing movement of shared spiritual awakening.

The Five Unity Principles
1. One Presence and One Power – God, the good, is everywhere present, the source of love, wisdom, and all life.
2. Our Divine Nature – Each person is an expression of God, inherently good, with the Christ spirit at our core.
3. Creative Power of Thought – Our thoughts and feelings shape our experiences; we co-create with God.
4. Prayer and Meditation – Through prayer and meditation we align with God, awakening to our Oneness.
5. Living the Truth – Knowing is not enough; we live spiritual Truth through our thoughts, words, and actions.

We see every person as a unique expression of God, created with sacred worth. Living from this awareness transforms both our lives and the world. We affirm the creative power of thought—what we call the Law of Mind Action. By taking personal responsibility to choose life-affirming thoughts, words, and actions, we open ourselves to a fulfilling and abundant life.

Unity offers practical tools for spiritual living including affirmative prayer, meditation, denials and affirmations, the Five-Step Prayer Process, and the Twelve Powers—all ways to awaken the Christ Spirit within and express our divine nature in everyday life.

Unity Vancouver Island History

Comox Valley

North Island Unity began in the 1960s and was incorporated in 1979 by founders Loresah and Hartley Rollins. In 2010, the name was changed to Unity Comox Valley to align with Unity Worldwide Ministries’ branding program. On April 18, 2021, Unity Comox Valley officially joined with Nanaimo and Victoria under the umbrella of Unity Vancouver Island Spiritual Centre Society.

Nanaimo

Unity in Nanaimo traces its beginnings to Mother’s Day, May 13, 1979, when six people—Olive Weber, Cathy Schulz, Irene Clease, Pearl Horne, Myrtle Turner, and Rebecca Moore—gathered in Olive Weber’s home under the mentorship of Rev. Marvin Anderson of Unity of Victoria.

On August 6, 1992, the group became incorporated as Mid-Island Unity: The Church of the Daily Word. In July 2000, the name was changed to Mid-Island Unity: Centre of Light and Love, and in May 2004 it became Unity Church of Nanaimo.

On April 18, 2021, the community joined with the Comox Valley and Victoria centres to become part of the Unity Vancouver Island Spiritual Centre Society, uniting the three locations under a shared name and vision.

Victoria

Our Victoria community offers monthly in-person services and social/spiritual gatherings, creating opportunities for connection, inspiration, and spiritual growth. On April 18, 2021, the Victoria community officially joined with the Comox Valley and Nanaimo centres under the umbrella of Unity Vancouver Island Spiritual Centre Society, uniting three vibrant communities under one shared name and vision.

Joint Statement For Peace

Unity stands for peace in the presence of conflict; for love in the presence of hatred; for forgiveness in the presence of injury. Unity honours the many names for God, the many paths to God, the many ways to worship God; for there is only one power and presence of God and that God loves each one of us equally. It is therefore the position of Unity to urge all nations, their leaders, and their people to turn to God by whatever the name for guidance during these challenging times and to pursue peace, not war, for this is what honours the God of all our faith traditions. Unity stands for peace in our lifetime.
